Azure OpenAI and Amazon Bedrock: GPT and Claude on your company data, in your own account
Your teams get the strongest commercial models on internal documents and cases, under the contracts, security controls and invoice your company already has with Microsoft or AWS. We build the assistants and agents in your own Azure or AWS account, choose deployment types that keep processing in the EU, and put one gateway in front with a budget for each team. It suits companies that already run on Azure or AWS and want results quickly without sending data to the vendors' public APIs.
From your account to a tested system
- 1
Data rules first: which data may go to which model, and which deployment types keep processing in the EU.
- 2
Setup in your account: model deployments, private networking, identity and logging, from Terraform in your repositories.
- 3
Gateway and applications: one API for all teams with keys and budgets, then the assistant or agent on top.
- 4
Acceptance test before go-live, then operation by your team or by us.
What changes for your business
Your company can use GPT and Claude on its own data without a new vendor contract: requests run through your existing Azure or AWS account, can stay on private network paths, and appear on the invoice you already receive. Teams get one approved route to the models, so nobody needs a private account to get work done.
Where the provider and the processing location matter to your customers or your data protection officer, you can show where every request goes. In a Bitkom study published in 2026, 93% of companies said they prefer German AI providers, and 88% said the provider's country of origin is important. An EU deployment in your own account answers part of that question. Where it is not enough, the same gateway sends sensitive work to models on your own servers.
- Commercial models on internal documents and cases, under contracts you already manage.
- Processing in the EU, enforced in one place for all teams.
- A key and a budget for each team, with spend reported per team and application.
- No lock-in: Azure, AWS and your own models behind one API, so you can switch per task.
Why your own cloud account
Running models through your own Azure or AWS account keeps them under contracts, data processing agreements, identity, networking and billing you already manage. Requests can stay on private network paths, access follows your existing roles, and spend appears on the same invoice as the rest of your infrastructure.
Keeping processing in the EU
Where a request is processed depends on the deployment type you choose, not only on the region. On Azure, a global deployment may route requests outside the region you picked, while an EU data zone deployment keeps processing within the EU. On Amazon Bedrock, requests run in the region you call or, with an EU cross-region inference profile, across EU regions. A global inference profile can route requests worldwide. Which models are available in which deployment type changes often, so we check the current lists for the models you need.
What an EU region does not settle
Data location and legal jurisdiction are different questions. Microsoft and Amazon are US companies, and an EU region does not by itself remove the reach of US law such as the CLOUD Act. For many companies the contracts, encryption and EU processing are enough. Where they are not, the answer is your own servers or an EU provider, and we cover that with on-premise AI. This is not legal advice: you make that call, advised by your data protection officer and lawyers.
Training, retention and monitoring
Both providers state that prompts and answers in these services are not used to train the models and are not passed to the model vendors. Azure applies abuse monitoring that can involve keeping data for a limited time, with an application process for changing it. We go through the current terms with your data protection officer, because they are updated, and record the result in the system documentation.
One gateway for Azure, AWS and your own models
A LiteLLM gateway in front of all deployments gives every team one API, with keys, budgets and logs per team. Its model list can contain only EU deployments, with no fallback to global ones, so the routing rule is enforced in one place instead of in every application. Models you serve yourself with vLLM can sit behind the same gateway.
Tested before go-live, maintained after it
Providers retire model versions and release new ones on their own schedule. We test the system against agreed acceptance criteria before go-live, and run the same tests before every model version change, so a provider update cannot quietly change how your assistant answers.
Questions
Can we put confidential data into GPT or Claude this way?
Technically, requests stay in your own account, can run on private network paths and, with the right deployment type, are processed in the EU. Both providers state that prompts are not used for training. Whether that is enough for a given kind of data, such as personnel files, you decide with your data protection officer. Where it is not, the gateway sends that data to models on your own servers. This is not legal advice.
What drives the cost?
Mainly the number of requests, the length of documents and answers, and which model handles each task. Model usage is billed by Microsoft or AWS on your own invoice. Our work gets a fixed price for each step, agreed in writing after the first call, and the gateway shows cost per team, so you see early where spend grows.
Are we locked into Microsoft or AWS?
Less than with a direct integration. Applications talk to the gateway, not to the provider, so a task can move to another provider or to your own servers once the same tests pass.
Does our data stay in the EU with Azure OpenAI?
It depends on the deployment type. A global deployment may process requests outside the region you chose. An EU data zone deployment keeps processing in the EU. We set the deployment types and the gateway so that teams cannot pick a global one by accident.
Are our prompts used to train the models?
Microsoft and AWS both state that prompts and answers in Azure OpenAI and Amazon Bedrock are not used to train the models and are not shared with the model vendors. We check the current terms with your data protection officer.
Does an EU region protect us from the US CLOUD Act?
Not by itself. An EU region decides where data is processed, not which law applies to the provider. If that is a hard requirement, the answer is your own servers or an EU provider. This is not legal advice.
Azure OpenAI or Amazon Bedrock?
Usually the models you need and the cloud your company already runs decide it. With a gateway in front, you can use both and switch per task without changing your applications.
Can we combine cloud models with models on our own servers?
Yes. The gateway can route sensitive work to models you serve yourself and the rest to Azure or AWS, with the rule enforced in one place.
Who runs it after go-live?
Your team, with the Terraform code, runbooks and training we hand over, or we do under a monthly retainer with a named engineer.
